Fiery Heat on the Drag Strip in Ashcroft

ASHCROFT, British Columbia (July 28, 2009) – N’lakapxm Eagle Motorplex

Waves of heat rippled off of the N’lakakpxm Eagle Motorplex pavement and a strong headwind bullied its way down the ¼-mile drag strip; conditions usually not conducive to great drag racing. Despite the odds, western series points leader Nick Allen from Redline Harley-Davidson® defied the odds, rolled up to the tree, stuck his nose in the paint of his Harley-Davidson^® V-Rod^® Destroyer^TM motorcycle and did the unbelievable by setting a new national record of 144.02 miles per hour.

As the filament in the green start light started to warm, Allen was off with an unimaginable 0.000 reaction time and a top speed of 144.02 miles per hour in the first elimination round of the event. Clearly, the gauntlet had been thrown and all the other competitors could do was watch as Allen performed his magic once again to work through the field on his way to a final-round showdown with Shaun Rude.

With Allen’s incredible run to earn a bye, elimination round one saw Shaun Rude, racing for Harley-Davidson® Grande Prairie and Heritage Harley-Davidson®, face off against Dennis Harkin, supported by Harley-Davidson® of Edmonton and Gasoline Alley Harley-Davidson®. Rude came out on top with an ET of 9.707 and a reaction time of 0.125. Kelly McCuaig from Harley-Davidson® of Prince George bested Mike Evanyshyn to move into round two action with a 10.287 and reaction time of -0.27. Ken Trommel made quick work of Dale Sweeney with a brilliant reaction time of 0.00 and an ET of 10.094.

In round two action, Allen continued his march to the finals, beating Trommel while Rude got ahead of the over-enthusiastic McCuaig, setting the stage for the final battle between Allen and Rude.

With the heavy heat waves of the western British Columbia summer beating down on them, and the wind in their faces, Allen and Rude lined up for one final run down the tarmac. As the tree flashed green, both riders fired off the starting line, matching wheel to wheel down the strip. When the finish lights flashed they were still side-by-side with less than one second between them. Allen took the narrow margin victory with an ET of 9.565, while Rude broke the beam with an ET of 9.659. Allen remained sharp through the final and although Rude had an impressive reaction time of 0.032, Allen bested him with a 0.016. Look for this series to heat up even more as all of these talented riders look to get a handle on the tricky Nick Allen.

On pouvait voir des ondes de chaleur au-dessus de la chaussée du Nl’akapxm Eagle Motorplex et un fort vent contraire soufflait sur la piste de 0,4 km (¼ de mille); des conditions qui ne sont généralement pas favorables aux courses d’accélération. Malgré cela, le leader en points de la série de l’ouest, Nick Allen de Redline Harley-DavidsonMD a mis les chances de son côté, a pris son élan, s’est plié sur sa moto Harley-Davidson^MD V-Rod^MD Destroyer^MC et a réussi l’incroyable avec l’établissement d'un nouveau record national de 144.02 mi/h.

. Alors que le filament de la lampe verte de départ commençait à chauffer, Allen s’élança avec un temps de réaction inimaginable de 0,000 pour monter à une vitesse maximum de
231,78 km/h (144,02 mi/h) pendant la première ronde d’élimination de la manifestation. Il était évident que le défi avait été lancé et tout ce que les autres concurrents pouvaient faire était de regarder Allen présenter une fois de plus ses tours de magie, travailler dur pour un duel avec Shaun Rude, lors de la ronde finale.

Avec l’incroyable parcours d’Allen qui lui permit de gagner un laissez-passer, la première ronde d’élimination vit Shaun Rude, courant pour Harley-DavidsonMD Grande Prairie et Heritage Harley-DavidsonMD, en face à face contre Dennis Harkin, appuyé par Harley-DavidsonMD of Edmonton et Gasoline Alley Harley-DavidsonMD. Rude fut vainqueur avec un temps de passage de 9,707 et un temps de réaction de 0,125. Kelly McCuaig de Harley-DavidsonMD of Prince George fit de son mieux contre Mike Evanyshyn pour avancer à la deuxième ronde, avec un temps de 10,287 et un temps de réaction de -0,27. Ken Trommel n’a pas mis longtemps pour vaincre Dale Sweeney, grâce à un temps de réaction brillant de 0,00 et un temps de passage de 10,094.

Lors de la deuxième ronde, Allen a continué son avance vers les finales, battant Trommel, tandis que Rude devançait un McCuaig trop enthousiaste, préparant le terrain pour la bataille finale entre Allen et Rude.

Avec les ondes de chaleur intense de l’été de Colombie-Britannique de l’ouest tombant sur eux et le vent dans le nez, Allen et Rude se préparèrent pour un dernier parcours sur le tarmac. Alors que le signal passait au vert, les deux concurrents s’élancèrent de la ligne de départ, roue contre roue sur la piste. Quand le signal d’arrivée est apparu, ils étaient toujours côte-à-côte, avec moins d’une seconde d’écart. Allen remporta la victoire de peu, avec un temps de passage de 9,565, tandis que Rude passa le faisceau avec un temps de passage de 9,659. Allen resta splendide jusqu’à la finale et bien que Rude eut un temps de réaction impressionnant de 0,032, Allen fit mieux avec 0,016. Cette série devrait devenir encore plus compétitive car tous ces motocyclistes talentueux vont vouloir battre le redoutable Nick Allen.
